Frequently Asked Questions
How many test sessions can be stored on the GSI TympStar Pro?
The last 100 test sessions are automatically saved to the TympStar Pro.
How do I use the Auto Start function?
For both screening and diagnostic mode, insert the probe and as soon as the seal is obtained, the sweep begins without any need to press additional buttons on the instrument or probe.
What probe tone testing frequencies should I use with the TympStar Pro?
The standard multiple probe tone frequencies are included: 226, 678, and 1000 Hz. The 1000 Hz probe tone frequency allows the audiologist to accurately conduct tympanometry testing on infants up to 6 months of age. 678 Hz helps confirm the diagnosis of ossicular discontinuity, otosclerosis, and other ossicular chain disorders. 226 Hz is the probe tone used most commonly. It is used to perform tympanometry, reflexes, reflex decay, and other diagnostic tests on patients 6 months and older.
What type of programmable user tests are available with the TympStar Pro?
Audiologists have the ability to set the deflection criterion for reflex threshold testing, pump speed, sweep direction, stimulus starting intensity, and more. This allows hearing health professionals to easily customize a middle ear test to meet a patient’s unique needs.
What is the EMR/EHR compatibility with this tympanometer?
The TympStar Pro can offer e-record solutions for all types of facilities. Reports may be automatically stored in compatible format to attach to EMR or a true HL7 interface with AudBase, Greenway, or AllMeds EMR.

Confidence in Testing
The TympStar Pro is a comprehensive tympanometer which takes precision to the next level. Evaluate neural integrity, reflex pathways, and Eustachian tube function with one touch. Have complete confidence during reflex threshold testing with artifact-free tracings. Eliminate the “null” point that cancels out the reflex with multiplex pulsed tone stimulation for ipsilateral reflex recordings. Know you’re getting accurate results with this middle ear analyzer.
Streamline Operations
Benefit from Auto Start in both hearing screening and diagnostic tympanometry. Save time and improve consistency in testing with user defined auto sequence testing - perform tympanometry, reflex threshold and reflex decay testing with a single button press on the tympanometer. Define patient or user specific test protocols that will adjust settings for immediate testing.
Every Patient Population
Take advantage of multiple probe tone frequencies and Multi-Hz testing. Test a diverse patient population with differing middle ear pathologies with 226, 678, and 1000 Hz probe tones. Validate electrode placement for cochlear implant patients with ESRT. Start and stop tests and switch test ears from the probe box so you can interface with difficult to test patients.
Save Time with Auto Start
As soon as a seal is obtained in the ear, the tympanometer begins the sweep without any need to press buttons to save time with challenging patients.
Key Tympanometer Features
1. Touch Screen Monitor
The 12 inch color display allows the examiner to change parameters with a single touch of the screen.
2. Customizable User Tests
The predefined protocols save time and create consistency in testing. Define auto sequence tests that are consistent with billing codes.
3. Zoom Function
For detailed analysis, use the zoom function to analyze a tympanogram. Verify peak pressure and mark/verify reflex thresholds.
4. Multiple Probe Tone Frequencies
Test hearing loss in a diverse patient population with 226, 678, and 1000 Hz probe tones. These standard probe tones allow efficient testing on all.
5. Stand-Alone PC Enabled
EMR/EHR compatible with GSI Suite for reporting and counseling.
6. Five Test Type Buttons
Fast transition between tests for accurate and efficient tympanometry testing. Tests include Screening, Tymp, Reflex, ETF, and More Tests.
Diagnostic Tympanometry
Automatically display peak pressure, admittance at peak, and ear canal volume. Assign a tymp type (A, B, C, A(s), A(d)), or customize a type to suit your reporting needs. Initiate testing from the tympanometer, shoulder probe box, or utilize Auto Start to begin the test as soon as a seal is obtained. Take full control with a manual pressure sweep with up to three tracings per tab.
Multi-Hz Tympanometry
The Multiple Frequency Tympanometry test provides audiologists the tool needed to confidently identify resonance frequency of the middle ear system. This powerful test can be completed five times faster than its predecessor and takes as little as 13 seconds to complete. Multi-Hz offers the efficiency and accuracy needed to assess pathologies in the middle ear system.
Eustachian Tube Function (ETF)
Evaluate Eustachian tube function on patients with intact or perforated tympanic membranes. Quickly document a patulous Eustachian tube with a dedicated and customizable test type. Test and patient instructions will appear when appropriate for smooth transition between steps.
Screening Tympanometry
Quickly perform an evaluation of the middle ear in the screening mode. The tympanometer will automatically start on seal for both 226 and 1000 Hz probe tones, ensuring fast test times. It is possible to automatically run up to four screening reflexes in any combination of ipsilateral or contralateral stimulation.
